WHY DOSE MY TOILET HAVE A REMOTE CONTROL?
Have you ever seen remote controls in Korean restrooms? It could be attached to the side of the toilet seat, or on the wall near it.
Are Koreans watching TV sitting in the public restroom? Why does my toilet have a remote control?
What you’re experiencing is the peak of hygiene technology. Read on, and allow us to be your guide on a journey of sanitary salvation.
HOW MANY THINGS CAN A TOILET POSSIBLY DO?
Interestingly, the remote controls usually have far more buttons than just the regular use. Indeed, some of these toilet controls are so elaborate. It's hard to even find just "flush".
THE MODERN BIDET's ORIGIN in EUROPE
The history of bidet began in Europe(either in France or Italy, Wiki) in the 17th century. The common style bidet looks like a toilet bowl with a tap on it. However, Korean electronics industry combined this technology with the most private part of our daily life. They invented thick toilet seats, containing pressure sensors and automatic nozzle.
NORMAL KOREAN ELECTRIC BIDET STYLE
We could say two main types of electric bidet seats are popular. One is a sensor-embedded seat type with a remote control at the side, the other having the remote on the wall separately. I personally see the side remote control style more often in South Korea.
SIDE REMOTE CONTROL
In general, the side remote control style won't be too much trouble, if you do not know the button functions. However, in the early years of electric bidet, I have been super embarrassed several times due to "wall remote control style bidet". It may occasionally hide the flush button. I expect there could be at least one person reading this article desperately stuck in the toilet stall and looking for the flush button. If this is you, scroll down quickly to "Flush buttons" paragraph.
WALL REMOTE CONTROL.
The main flush buttons could be combined in the remote controller, or not. What I want to show you in this article is the "combined" case, because it was more embarrassing in my experiences. The other case would be the same as a side remote controller style toilet, which means the flush button is visible somewhere else, or could works automatically by sensor.
FLUSH BUTTONS
If there are no flush button or sensor things at all, it's time to make your best effort to find certain Korean words in the remote controller. "소", "대" or "물내림". These are all you need.
소 so, 소변 so-byeon
Semi Flush
대 dae, 대변 dae-byeon
Full Flush
물내림 moolaerim
Flush
Can you find any of them in this photo below?
If those letters are not on the front side, you might want to check top or right/left side of the controller as well.
COMMON SENSE about KOREA ELECTRIC BIDET
◎ Electric bidet does not use the water of toilet bowl. It links to water pipe seperately.
◎ Restrom needs an outlet to install electric bidet seat.
◎ Installation of e-bidet is simple. By replacing toilet seats with electric one, you can enjoy e-bidet life.
MORE TICKLING BIDET ADVENTURES
The bidet is actually pleasant once you get used to it. Use keeps odor, hygiene and mood much better. Are you an open minded person? Let us guide you on your refreshing adventures in hygienic enlightment.
ONE. MAIN 5 FUNCTIONS
Beginners can learn 5 main functions first - 세정, 비데, 쾌변, 건조, 정지
세정 sae-jeong
DEFAULT WASH
Are you new to bidet? You must begin with this. The nozzle will extend and shoot water to clean your butt mildly. If the water pressure isn't mild, I bet someone with a sense of humor increased the water pressure before.
비데 bi-det
FEMININE WASH
This is a function for women. Not much different from 세정, but the direction of water is angled forwarded a little.
쾌변 qwae-byeon
HARD CORE WASH
It will clean the super deep part between your butt cheeks. After this, you might want to take a break, and use 세정 to again.
건조 geon-jo
DRY
I like this. Warm wind will dry your skin up like a baby butt.
정지 jeong-ji
STOP
TWO. ADJUSTMENT
Are you an advanced bidet user? You can make more pleasant experiences by adjusting water pressure, water temperature and the position of nozzles. These Korean words will help you to identify them.
노즐 nozzle
water nozzle
수압 soo-ahp
water pressure
수온 soo-on
water temperature
변좌 온도 byeon-jwa on-do
toilet seat temperature (when seat has heater)
.
온도 on-do
temperature
.
조절 jojeol
adjustment
.
무브 move
water pulse
(double click the same button. Availability depends on brand)
Not all bidet brands embrace all functions described above. Some models don't have one of main functions such as Drying or Hardcore one. Sophisticated adjustment is also available, but only with good quality products. Also, button icons may be different by design too.
PERSONAL TIPS
No matter what, my personal tip for novice bidet users is "using warm water and warm drying" when it's available. That will bring right notion about bidet's value to your mind.
Finally, don't forget to use toilet tissue by the way. Bidet is not almighty.
Bye~!
